Agriculture is among the greatest contributors to global warming, emitting more greenhouse gases than all our cars, trucks, trains and airplanes combined. Farming is the thirstiest user of our precious water supplies and a major polluter, as runoff from fertilizers and manuredisrupts fragile lakes, rivers and coastal ecosystems across the globe. The environmental challenges posed by agriculture are huge, and they’ll only become more pressing as we try to meet the growing need of food worldwide. By mid-century—we’ll likely have two billion more mouths to feed— that’s more than nine billion people. Our long term vision for City Fresh Farming is to create a production system of solar powered, containerized growing systems. This will deliver great tasting, locally grown, pesticide free, leafy green produce and fresh market herbs to theconsumer. Our goal is to get our products to the consumer in 1 day or less instead of 5 to 10 days using conventional farming and supply chain methods. As consumers of food in America, we lost track of where our food comes from and how it’s produced. In today’s consumer marketplace, the demand for fresh locally grown produce has never been higher.
